As soon as I laid eyes on her, my heart was filled with compassion. I walked over to her calmly and picked her up, tears streaming down my face. This precious pup was unable to use her hind legs, leaving her paralyzed and in need of assistance. Eva had been trying to get someone to help this poor creature, as she may have been suffering from erlichia, but no one seemed willing to lend a hand.
In a quiet and subtle manner, I took Eva with me to the car and drove her to our home. The following day, we visited the vet for a thorough blood examination. Despite feeling good and having a healthy appetite, Eva’s hind legs seemed immobile. The specialized doctor confirmed that she did not have any major illnesses like erlichia or HW. However, the blood report showed signs of anemia, which left us puzzled about her leg condition.
Regrettably, the physician imparted some distressing information. Yesterday, we took Eva for X-rays, and the physician disclosed that she had two damaged vertebrae that were causing her considerable discomfort and paralysis in both her legs. As per the veterinarian, “the injury could have been caused by a collision with a vehicle or an individual. The orthopedic surgeon will determine if surgery is a viable solution for her.”
Eva received daily doses of pain medication to ensure her comfort and happiness. Her rehabilitation was progressing smoothly, and she was making remarkable strides towards recovery. Just three weeks ago, she was barely clinging onto life, but now her condition had improved significantly. Her hind legs were growing stronger, enabling her to stand upright with the help of a cane.
Eva was well aware of the hard work that lay ahead in her journey towards recovery. Nevertheless, she remained determined to give it her best shot. Every day, she underwent massages to loosen her muscles, electric stimulation sessions once every three days, and water therapy to aid her rehabilitation. Thanks to her dedication and commitment, Eva made significant progress in a surprisingly short amount of time. Her hind legs grew stronger and more agile, while her front legs became more flexible and could be extended in an upright position.
There was a valuable lesson to be learned from Eva’s perseverance and strength. Despite her challenging circumstances, she refused to give up and showed us all what it meant to be a true warrior. To aid her recovery, Eva underwent plasma therapy and received weekly injections, which appeared to be beneficial. We witnessed her improvement firsthand as she was able to stand up for longer periods and even take a few steps that day.
A little while back, I was considering the idea of getting a wheelchair for Eva. However, I quickly dismissed the thought because I noticed that she had been making progress with her walking and it made me extremely proud to see her improving. We recently took a trip to the beach and it was the first time Eva had ever seen the ocean. She was so excited that she ran towards it and jumped around in pure bliss. It was heartwarming to witness her enjoyment and happiness.
After a long search, she has finally discovered the perfect family and home that suits her well. She has now acquired Canadian citizenship and has been treated with kindness and respect. Furthermore, she has the freedom to do whatever she desires.
